Bullying forum Jan. 7 Oakville resident Chris Vollum will lead a community forum on bullying on Thursday, Jan. 7. Vollum is a recognized authority on Facebook and Twitter. He will educate parents, teachers and students on how to minimize privacy breaches and proactively defend against electronic bullying on Facebook and Twitter. The forum will run from 7-9 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at the Operating Engineers Banquet Hall, 2245 Speers Rd. It will also feature a student play on bullying prevention, written and directed by a group of drama students from Bishop Reding Secondary School. Halton Habitat for Humanity has new leader Habitat for Humanity Halton is getting a new leader, one with extensive experience in the volunteer and political sectors. Anne Swarbrick assumes the organization's role of executive director as of Dec. 14. The Burlington resident was a member of provincial parliament (MPP) from 1990-95 where she served as Minister of Culture, Tourism and Recreation, and Minister of Women's Issues under NDP leader Bob Rae. Swarbrick's position with nonprofit groups included being president and CEO of the Toronto Community Foundation, and executive director at the Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE). "Anne is an experienced, high profile, energetic and caring leader who seeks out and develops partnerships and opportunities to collaborate. She's experienced in working with diverse volunteer and staff teams, has a track record of driving and implementing change, and has strong community and political ties in Halton," Natalie Charette, development associate with Habitat for Humanity Halton, said in a press release. According to Charette, Swarbrick will replace Kathrin Delutis as Habitat Halton's fulltime, paid executive director. Lynn Ferguson is currently the interim executive director in Halton. Since 1999, Habitat has built homes in Halton for 10 families.
