Editing turned out to be an easier task. Marrin put the film together using Final Cut Pro. "I knew what I wanted and I had the movie playing in my head and had already edited some of the scenes we had shot, so editing was very pleasant," he said. A notable feature of the film is the soundtrack, which was written by American film composer Kristen Baum. "I went to a film convention in L.A. and I met a composer named Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3 and The Uninvited) and I was very familiar with his work," Marrin said. "I told him I was a fan of his work and we got along well. He recommended his protégé to me, who was Kristin Baum, and she did the score for me." The bill for the flick rang in at approximately $35,000, which Marrin said was a worthwhile investment. "Money came from mom and dad, film jobs that I had for companies and every dime I could mooch," he said. "I did a lot of the things myself to save money. I was carving vampire stakes in the workshop and even making props. I'm very hands-on and I'd like to keep it that way." Marrin is now working on starting his own film company, Marrin's Movies, specializing in independent films, as well as commercial filming, such as weddings, sports and corporate functions. He also has a second script in the works for his second full-length independent film, entitled Stiffs on the Green. "It is a dark comedy, murder mystery about killers on a golf course," he said. "I think audiences are going to like it." My Wife is a Vampire will be screened on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor St. W., Toronto. Admission costs $10.
