17 · Friday, January 29, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Sigma-Aldrich Employee Fundraisers Benefit OTMH On Tuesday, December 22, employees of Sigma-Aldrich, a leading Life Science and High Technology company in Oakville unveiled a cheque for $4,100. These funds will be used to purchase essential medical equipment at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, including the purchase of a vital signs monitor. The funds were raised through numerous employee fundraising initiatives including: setting up a Sigma-Aldrich store whereby employees could purchase snacks and beverages, holding several silent auctions on goods and services that employees donated, implementing casual days on Thursdays, selling homemade baked goods to employees and selling raffle tickets to win door prizes at their company holiday party. We would also like to recognize and thank Sigma-Aldrich for making a matching donation and for topping up the funds raised by their employees. Thank you for the health of our community. Invest in Oakville's Future Healthcare The Ontario government has approved the construction of a new hospital for Oakville, as Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital can no longer accommodate the healthcare needs of a growing and aging Oakville. The Town of Oakville is currently consulting with residents regarding Halton Healthcare Services' request of $200 million, to help fund the local share requirement for the New Oakville Hospital, which is the portion of the project costs not covered by the provincial government. The benefits to our community are extensive and far reaching. The New Oakville Hospital will: · contain a much higher percentage of single-patient rooms, which will reduce the risk of infection and increase patient privacy and comfort · offer new services such as a cancer clinic to provide patient assessment, counselling, chemotherapy administration and radiation assessments for oncology patients · provide additional diagnostic services including more MRIs and CT Scanners A complete local share plan, which includes the Town's contribution, is required before the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care provides Halton Healthcare Services with approval to move forward with the project and ensures our new hospital will proceed as planned with the space, equipment and new services the residents of Oakville need and deserve. Employees of Sigma-Aldrich present a cheque of $4,100 to Trevor Nash of the Oakville Hospital Foundation Maximize Your Health: Chronic Disease Self Management Program Do you have one or more chronic conditions such as diabetes, kidney, heart or lung disease, arthritis or any other conditions?
