Relay with us to Make Cancer History Join the Fight! T here are immense moments in time when the whole world holds its breath in anticipation. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on Jan. 12 was one earth-shattering moment. In merely 15 seconds, entire communities collapsed into dust, trapping thousands of people under their own homes. Towns descended into utter chaos as days of increasing shock and devastation stretched Haitians to the limit. Here at Iroquois Ridge High School, we see a different part of the big picture. A million or more children, emerging heartbroken as they realize their schools, families and futures have crumbled in the earthquake. It is difficult for a child to hear that the foundations of their life are gone. But it is even more painful to know that school is no longer an option in Haiti, no matter how much a child hopes to learn. This is why Iroquois Ridge High School is asking the help of all schools, organizations and people of Oakville to raise $24,000 by March Break to build, equip and staff a school in Haiti through the Free the Children Foundation. Within the first three days of fundraising, we raised $4,000 alone. With your full support, we know we can reach our goal of $24,000. We understand that it will take a great sacrifice of time and effort in order for you to attend our community functions, join our fundraising efforts and donate to our Haiti Education Fund. However, our mission is not just an act of charity but humanity, to help the people of Haiti rebuild their country and community after the earthquake. All donations to the Haiti Education Fund can be made through cheques addressed to Iroquois Ridge High School or monetary donations, either mailed or handed in at the main office at Iroquois Ridge High School. The Free the Children Foundation will send out charitable donation receipts for cheques donating amounts of $10 or more to the Haiti Education Fund. For more information regarding how to donate and support the Haiti Education Fund, call 905-845-0012 or email Jane Greenhill at greenhillj@hdsb.ca or Susan Graham at grahamsu@hdsb.ca. In the past you embraced our efforts to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian causes. Once more, Iroquois Ridge High School is asking for your help to raise the much needed $24,000 to build a school in Haiti for children who desperately need it.
