All proceeds from the annual event are going to food banks in Oakville. Prom Night screening for Black History Month An Oakville synagogue and the Caribbean community have teamed up to present a film for Black History Month that deals with the segregation of whites and blacks. The film Prom Night in Mississippi will be shown at Silvercity Cinema in Oakville Wednesday, Feb. 24. A discussion will follow the film lead by the film's director and Oakville-resident Paul Saltzman. The film is about a real town in Mississippi that, until 2008, had separate proms for the black and the white students at its public high school. The documentary deals with the reaction of the community in the wake of a single, all-race prom. Prom Night is presented by the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton and Shaarei-Beth El Congregation of Halton, both located in Oakville. Tickets cost $5. The film starts at 7 p.m. The theatre is located at the QEW and Burloak Drive. For more information visit www.promnightinmississippi.com Once Upon a Time with Campanelli Hamilton born and raised entertainment host Rick Campanelli of Entertainment Tonight Canada will help Halton Women's Place as he joins the annual gala event as master of ceremonies. Once Upon a Time -- Dinner, Dance, Auction featuring the dynamic entertainment host, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre. This annual fundraising event will assist the organization as the only crisis shelter service for women and their dependent children in Halton. Tickets cost $150.
