Pitch for beer comes up empty Three would-be beer bandits drove away empty handed Saturday after a failed heist at a local Beer Store. Halton police said the incident began at around 2 a.m. when a van approached the Beer Store located at 1431 Rebecca St. After the van was parked, a trio of men emerged with the driver producing a pitchfork, which he then used in an attempt to smash the Beer Store's front windows. After making several attempts to break the windows, the first suspect let the second and third suspects try, however, none of them proved successful in their efforts. While the suspects did manage to do around $500 worth of damage to the store, the window remained intact with the suspects having to flea with no beer in tow. The first suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, wearing a light coloured hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and white runners. The second suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, wearing a dark jacket, a hooded sweatshirt over his head, dark jeans and white runners. The third suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, wearing a baseball hat, dark sweatshirt, dark jeans and black and white runners. Halton Police continue to investigate this incident and anyone with information related to it is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-8254747, ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-TIPS (8477). 7 · Wednesday, February 24, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Burton invites minister on tour Words and protests haven't worked so now he's trying a tour. "The proposed location, especially in light of the recent power station explosion in Connecticut, is ludicrous due to its proximity to numerous schools and homes. That this plan still has standing is testimony to the deaf ears of the government," said Chudleigh. Chudleigh said he will read the petition into the Legislative record as signatures are received. The petition is at www.tedchudleigh.com. Copies can be printed and signatures dropped off or mailed to the Halton constituency office at 174 Mill St., Milton L9T 1S2. Hard copy signatures are required and each page must include the full formal text of the petition to ascertain those signing understand what they are signing. "Petitions, rallies, letters to the Premier and to the editors of newspapers are part of the pressure tactics available," said Chudleigh. "We will use them to get this decision reversed."
