Oakville Transit changing routes Starting Sunday, adjustments to Oakville Transit schedules and routes are being made to improve connections to other Oakville bus routes and GO Transit and to extend service in the area of Winston Business Park East. Since implementing a new service design last September, Oakville Transit has been monitoring route times, service delivery and feedback from both Oakville Transit drivers and riders. To more effectively meet the needs of residents, schedule adjustments are being made to help improve connection times to GO trains at both Bronte and Oakville GO stations, as well as to other bus routes. Schedules will be adjusted for routes 1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 31, 102 and 190. In addition, Route 6 will be adjusted to offer service seven days a week to the AMC theatre and entertainment area and Winston Business Park East via Bristol Circle. Route 6 will also extend north to Dundas Street, across from the Silver City movie theatre. Route 2, along Lakeshore Road, will be extended east from Ford Drive to Upper Middle Road and Bristol Circle and will connect to Route 6. Route 1 Trafalgar will continue to offer 20-minute service on weekdays, but its evening, weekend and holiday service will change from 40-minute service to 30 minutes as of March 7. "These changes are a direct result of monitoring our service and working with our drivers and riders to ensure we are delivering a service that is efficient and in line with the needs of our residents," said Barry Cole, director of Oakville Transit. Sunday's changes are part of the approved 2010 Transit Operating Budget. Other Oakville Transit improvements include the new PRESTO fare card system set to launch in the spring; new shelters and more accessible bus stops coming on line during the summer; and, a new transit operations facility scheduled to be completed by March 2011.
