Oakville toddler has Lindsay Lohan steamed By Nicole Baute TORONTO STAR 9 · Friday, March 12, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com McAllister Kerr is much more articulate on television. In person, his vocabulary consists of mainly nouns, most of them words for familiar objects and people -- Mama, Daddy, Grandpa, soccer, camera, bus. Typical toddler stuff. But on TV, where he stars in a series of commercials for the discount brokerage ETrade, he's a smooth-talking party baby who takes control of his portfolio "like a wolf," flies the red-eye home from bachelor parties and may or may not spend time with "that milkaholic Lindsay," when his sweet, teddy-bear hugging girlfriend isn't around. The Oakville tot's television alter-ego is at the centre of a $100 million (U.S.) lawsuit launched on Monday by actress Lindsay Lohan. Her lawyer says the star has singlename recognition akin to Madonna or Oprah, and that the commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl last month, is a parody of her life. In the ad, one of five starring McAllister with a voice-over, he tells his girlfriend he didn't call last night because he was on E-Trade, diversifying his portfolio. But she clearly doesn't trust this charmer: "Are you sure that milkaholic Lindsay wasn't over?" she asks. The company that produced the spot says the popular baby name was picked because it was the name of someone on the account team. No matter to McAllister, a gregarious, hilarious 18-month-old who, within the span of a few minutes, breakdanced, squirmed, jumped, giggled, flirted, stood on his head, waved a flag, played with a truck and climbed on his mother in his Oakville home Wednesday night. "He's just a little comedian," said his moth- er, Jennifer Kerr, media relations manager at Ontario Place. "He entertains." On cue, McAllister will flash his "cheesy smile" (scrunched face, lots of teeth, big cheeks) or his "surprised look" (giant eyes, mouth in the shape of a Cheerio), which his parents say he did before his acting days. But the stunts came in handy during his two days of filming in Toronto in November, when he sat in a high chair in front of a green screen, reacting to a teleprompter. (The backgrounds were edited in later.) "He was having a ball," Jennifer Kerr said. "He was flirting with all the ladies; he was hamming it up with all the guys." Jennifer and Alan Kerr never meant to get their baby into show biz. But after McAllister did a photo shoot for Ontario Place, they were talked into putting him with an agency, which landed him the E-Trade gig. Although he isn't signing autographs yet, McAllister turned heads at the airport in Fort Myers, Fla., on Tuesday, as he and his mother were wrapping up a holiday. Once one security guard caught wind of his identity, she radioed her security guard friends: "Attention, attention. The E-Trade baby is coming through." "We were actually almost late for our flight because everyone was like, `He's the E-Trade baby, really?'" Jennifer Kerr said. The ads air widely in the U.S. and followed a previous series of talking baby ads by ETrade in 2008. The Kerrs, who didn't want to talk about the lawsuit because it didn't involve them, expect McAllister to make between $15,000 to $20,000 on the commercials, which will dutifully be stashed away in his post-secondary education fund. When asked about being on TV, McAllister wiggled out of his mom's arms and said, "Haha-ha. No, no." KEITH BEATY / TORONTO STAR BORN ENTERTAINER: McAllister Kerr frolics at his home in Oakville.
