KCC won all three of its playoff matches to claim the consolation championship at the provicial competition. The Cavaliers were relegated to the consolation bracket after finishing third in their competitive pool during the opening round. KCC then beat E.S.C. Hearst 25-20, 26-24 in the consolation quarter-finals, downed Penetanguishene Le Caron 13-25, 21-21, 15-9 in the semis and defeated Toronto Greenwood College 25-19, 23-25, 159 in the consolation final. "Definitely I think we overachieved," said KCC coach Ron Masengi. "Many teams did not know about us and were ready for an "easy" win. Little did they realize how strong this team actually is." Masengi said winning the consolation "means a lot" to his school, considering that King's was not competitive at its previous OFSAA appearance. "Winning the consolation shows that King's volleyball is making a strong showing all around," he said. STA reaches quarter-finals at AA tourney The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders won three of their four pool games before being eliminated in the quarter-finals at the OFSAA AA girls' volleyball championship in Perth. HIGH SCHOOLSPORTS Aquinas, seeded fifth in the tournament, faced No. 4 Ecole Secondaire Gisele Lalonde in the quarters with the Orleans school winning 25-20, 25-19. Aquinas finished second in its pool, with straight set victories over Bayside Secondary (25-15, 25-18) and Timiskaming District (25-18, 25-15) and a three-set win over Toronto District Christian (25-14, 21-25, 15-11). The Raiders lone loss in pool play was to silver medalist General Amherst, 25-13, 25-11. Loyola out early at AAA competition Despite sending three of their four matches to three games, the Loyola Hawks emerged from pool play with only a single victory, relegating the Hawks to the consolation draw at the OFSAA AAA tournament in Stratford. Loyola rallied to defeat Anderson Collegiate 20-25, 25-22, 15-10. However, the Hawks suffered the same fate against Oakridge Secondary. After taking the opener 25-22, Loyola dropped the next two 25-17, 15-10. Loyola also had a hard-fought match against Alexander MacKenzie High School, losing in three games 32-30, 19-25, 15-10. In its other pool game, Loyola was swept by Widdifield Secondary 25-12, 25-21. In the opening round of the playoffs, Bradford District came back to eliminate Loyola 20-25, 25-9, 15-12.
