Stephane Sauve, the owner of Paradiso Restaurants in Oakville and Burlington, will join thousands of men and women in the history-making bike ride that will see participants complete the more than 200-kilometre journey from Montreal to Quebec City in just two days. The event will begin on July 10 and continue into July 11. Sauve said the event is important because the money he is able to raise will support breakthrough research and the discovery of new cancer therapies at Montreal's Jewish General Hospital. "Think about it, over 2.4 per cent of men and 2.7 per cent of women in Canada will have to fight cancer at one point in their life. It's huge and we need to do something about it," he said. "When I say heartbreaking here's what I mean, according to the National Cancer Institute of Canada, over 153,100 new cases of cancer and 70,400 deaths from cancer were estimated to occur in 2006. Men outnumber women for new cases by five per cent and mortality by 11 per cent. That's why I'm riding, to do something big about cancer.
