Mayor Burton announced recently in a report to Council that the staff report regarding the decision will be available for public review on the Town's website by April 3, 2010. "Council and I value public consultation and I want the public to have more time than normal for comment on the recommendation report," said Burton. "We believe that hearing from the public helps us make better decisions and we welcome public delegations at the meetings on April 6 and 19. Councillors will have the benefit of hearing from the public at both meetings and speaking with their constituents before making their decision." The April 6 meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to respond to the report and present new information to Council. Members of the public wishing to make a delegation to Council can do so at the Council meeting on April 6 or April 19 by contacting the Town Clerk at 905-845-6601, ext. 4235 before noon on the day of the meeting. The report to council for the April 6 meeting will provide responses to all the questions received during Council's March meetings on the new hospital. Halton Healthcare Services has requested a contribution of $200 million (plus or minus 15 per cent) from the Town to complete its local share plan to help fund the new Oakville hospital. A former Oakville businessman accused of bilking investors for millions of dollars died suddenly the same day a former investor filed a motion against him in court, according to multiple reports. CBC has reported that Robert Mander, a financial advisor and head of E.M.B. Asset Group Inc. was found dead in his luxury home near Freelton March 17. Mander, a former Oakville resident who owned the Dunn Street Gallery, was at the centre of a lawsuit filed on behalf of a Mississauga dentist who alleged Mander swindled him and a group of investors out of millions in what is described as a potential Ponzi scheme. In court documents filed in Ontario Superior Court the same day, Davide Amato, the principal of SA Capital Growth Corp. alleges that over a two year period he turned over more than $12 million to Mander's company that he was told accrued substantial interest that was never repaid. SA Capital Growth also contributed, through additional investments an aggregate principle amount of about $5.3 million, the documents showed. Amato also alleges that "numerous unrelated third parties," are also owed substantial sums of money by Mander that he estimates are valued at least at $40 million.
