Rangers get scoring by committee Continued from page 25 Brown edged at worlds Oakville's Erika Brown narrowly ment in December -- scored to give Burlington a 3-2 overtime victory and the OMHA crown. No team had tested the Eagles, who posted an overall record of 76-2-3 this season, as much as Oakville. All three of Burlington's ties were against the Rangers, who boasted a pretty impressive record of their own -- 66-10-5, with more than half of those losses coming against the Eagles. While the Eagles were paced by Brendan Bowie, whose 11 goals in the OMHA tournament were more than double the next leading scorer, the Rangers continued to score by committee as they had throughout the season. Six different players scored in a tournament opening 71 win over the Halton Hurricanes, including a pair by Ryan O'Hara. Ty Jackson led the Rangers with two goals and eight assists, trailing only Bowie in tournament scoring. Dylan Jackson, Grant Munden and O'Hara each had three goals while Matthew Fanzoi had five points and Michael Vukojevic had four. The Rangers were dealt a setback in Friday's second game, falling 3-1 to the Ajax-Pickering Raiders. After drop- ping another 3-1 decision to Burlington Saturday morning, Oakville was facing a must-win game that afternoon against Markham. The Rangers jumped in front quickly as Dylan Jackson scored just 46 seconds into the game. It would remain that way until the second period when Oakville would again score in the opening minute of the second period and went on to get goals from six different players in a span of eight minutes. The Rangers went on to a 9-0 victory that moved them into a tie for second with Markham, and earned Oakville a spot in the gold-medal game thanks to goal differential. While Burlington's win means it will be guaranteed a spot in next year's OMHA tournament as host, it also provides an opening for Oakville to return through for another shot at its rivals through the SCTA qualifying tournament. "Every kid improved this year," McDermott said. "We're going to lose a few players to the GTHL but we've got lots of good hockey players at AA and A that can come in and fill those spots." And just maybe the stars will align a year from now. missed out on a playoff berth at the World Women's Curling Championships in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Brown, a Wisconsin native who was skipping the United States entry at the worlds, defeated China 9-4 in the final roundrobin game, improving the U.S. record to 7-4. When Sweden lost its final game, it also finished 7-4, falling into a tie for fourth and the final playoff spot, with the American rink. In the tie breaker, the U.S. and Sweden were tied 5-5 through five ends until Sweden scored four in the sixth end on its way to an 11-8 victory. OVER 60,000 SATISFIED CUSTOMERS BEAT THE HST!
