27 · Wednesday, April 7, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Russian artists exhibit at Abozzo Abbozzo Gallery is excited about its new exhibit that will feature the artistic works of a husband and wife. The exhibit, Mystic Point, features the paintings of Yury Darashkevich with selected pieces created by his wife Tania. It opens on Friday, April 9. "The exhibit is quite interesting for Yury's technique," said Margaret Kirwin, administrator at the gallery. "He's a very accomplished painter. The nice thing about him is that he always adds his own interpretation to the work." The works that will be featured at the gallery are landscape pictures by the artist. Kirwin said, "He paints in acrylic and then he uses a clear acrylic glaze over the top, like a rosin, which dries clear and has a hard finish to it. It's almost like glass. So it's quite an interesting effect." She added that the pieces produced by Yury look as though they are from the Romantic Era, but with a modern twist to them. Yury and Tania immigrated to Canada from Russia in 1998. Yury was already an artist in his native country while Tania turned more to the arts when they arrived in Canada. The pair currently lives in Toronto. Tania's work features realistic still-life images, said Kirwin. "She does a lot of things like very charming lineups of enamel teacups that everybody recognizes from their grandmother's house on shelves with beautiful light effects on them." The exhibit will be displayed at the gallery until April 25. On the opening night, Friday, there will be reception at 7-10 p.m. with a meet and greet with the artists. The gallery is located at 179 Lakeshore Rd. E. For more information visit www.abbozzogallery.com.
