The Oakville Chamber Ensemble is putting on the concert Perfect Four featuring Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 2 and Mozart's String Quartet No. 17 Saturday, April 10 in Oakville. "They're very exuberant pieces, they're full of energy, full of youth, full of passion and seeing that spring has arrived this is a perfect match," said Stéphane Potvin, artistic director of the ensemble. Mendelssohn was just 18 when he wrote his piece in A minor in 1827 and Mozart was 28 when he wrote his piece, nicknamed The Hunt, in 1784. "It's not the kind of music edge of their seat because the music is just passionate," Potvin added. The ensemble is now in its third season and features professional musicians. During a season the ensemble performs five concerts including one choral and one orchestral concert and one joint concert and one conductor-less concert with a small group of musicians, which in the case of the upcoming concert happens to be a quartet. The format for the fifth concert can vary from year to year. Potvin said the idea to perform the different types of concert is to offer variety to the audience. He normally conducts the four of the five concerts put on by the ensemble, save for the conductor-less one. "The four players are highly trained, they work together on a regular basis and it's really music that is meant to be done by four players and no conductors," he said of the upcoming concert.
