Blue Bandits capture third tournament title The Oakville Hornets Royal Blue Bandits blanked St. Catharines 3-0 to win the peewee house league title at the Burlington Barracudas tournament. The Blue Bandits won all five of their games to wrap up their third consecutive tournament title, having won previously at the North Halton Fall Classic Tournament in Georgetown and the Wildcats Tournament in Woodstock. Oakville defeated Barrie, Burlington and Whitby in the round robin before doubling Stoney Creek 4-2 to secure its place in the final. Fall Stampeders tryouts begin in May Register now for fall football BURLINGTON FOOTBALL Rangers top provincial champs in Halifax final Christopher Bassett scored his third goal of the game, breaking a tie with just 1:17 to play as the Oakville atom AAA Rangers edged the Bedford Blues 5-3 to win the 33rd annual SEDMHA International Minor Hockey Tournament in Halifax. Oakville had taken a 3-1 lead early in the third period of the final but the Nova Scotia provincial champs battled back to tie the game with two goals in the last five minutes. After Bassett's low shot beat the Bedford goalie, Jacob Moro sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Bassett and Cole Purboo staked Oakville to a 2-0 lead against Bedford, who shut out the Rangers 1-0 earlier in the tournament. Colton Incze, who stopped 25 shots, was named the MVP of the championship game. In earlier action, Oakville defeated Dartmouth, Cape Breton, Chebucto and Sackville en route to the championship game. MVP honours were awarded to Robbie Giunta, Bassett, Jacob Gower and Joey Berkopec. Incze was named Oakville's top player in the loss to Bedford.
