www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, April 16, 2010 · 18 Walter Used To Eat Frozen Dinners Alone Frogwatcher's hikes at Mountsberg Spring fever is in the air right now, literally, as male frogs are getting ready to sing in full chorus to attract mates. This annual nature phenomenon can be witnessed in the forests and wetlands of the Mountsberg Conservation Area during the annual Frogwatcher's Hikes. This year the hikes are from 7- 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 and Saturday, May 1. The songs or mating calls are so distinctive that various frog species can be identified simply by their calls. The earliest songster is the Spring Peeper, a tiny tree frog that makes a loud peep, but when thousands of these amphibians call together, the sound is almost deafening. Join in for a puppet show, visits to the pond and even a Swamp Tromp, to get a good look at some of these creatures. Learn about the difference between frogs and toads, and the amazing lives of salamanders. Admission for the Frogwatcher's Hike is by advance registration only online at www.conservationhalton.ca or call 905-854-2276 for information. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages five to 14. Mountsberg Conservation Area is located on Milburough Line, 5 km west of Campbellville, between Hwy. 6 South and Guelph Line.
