Boys choir to sing alongside renowned baritone Braun A Canadian worldrenowned baritone will join the boys choir of the Oakville Children's Choir (OCC) on stage when it performs Saturday, April 17. The boys choir will sing alongside baritone Russell Braun who will also do a short solo performance during the concert. Braun, who has performed in numerous places world-wide, will be accompanied by pianist Carolyn Maule. The concert will also feature performances by St. Michael's Choir School, Amabile Boys Choir, Gaudeamus Boys Choir and the Mississauga Children's Boy Choir. Matthew Larkin will be guest conductor. "This is a tremendous opportunity for the Oakville Children's Choir Boys Choir and for all the boys participating in the festival," said Janet Stachow, OCC associate music director, in a press release. "To perform alongside such a world-renowned baritone will be something they'll never forget. The experience might inspire our choristers to continue with their music and pursue a musical career." The choir will perform the songs Ancient Words and Carol of the Ladder with Braun. Other pieces in the concert will include Lone Dog and Where You Walk. Braun appears with the Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver symphony orchestras and has done a duo recital with Michael Schade in Kansas City and has done a recital tour of Western Canada. He performed as Prince Andrei in the Canadian Opera Company's production of War and Peace last season. He's also performed in France and Japan along with many other places around the world. "It is really a privilege to have a guest performer as accomplished and talented as Russell Braun, he is sure to be a great inspiration for our boys," said Judy Opar, OCC executive director. The concert, which takes place at Clearview Christian Reformed Church, 2300 Sheridan Garden Drive, begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door.
