Aeros wanted rematch with Chiefs Continued from page 35 37 · Friday, April 16, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com but the Aeros had yet to beat the Chiefs this season. Even a 25-save shutout by Paniccia in January had only earned Toronto a tie. But the Aeros were actually hoping for a rematch as they watched Saturday's semifinal. "It was what we all wanted," Paniccia said. "Mississauga is our rival. We wanted to beat them. It was the opportunity we waited for all year." And the Aeros made the most of it. Paniccia's Appleby College teammate Jillian Saulnier staked the Aeros to a firstperiod lead but Mississauga evened things up early in the second. Toronto would regain the lead later in the period when the third Oakville member of the team, Aurora Kennedy, set up Kelly Babstock with what would prove to be the winning goal. Kennedy had 17 points in 32 games this season and the blueliner added three more assists in four playoff games. The Aeros would kill off four penalties in the third and Paniccia made seven of her 16 saves to preserve the win. Though Paniccia won't be around to defend the title next year, she knows she's leaving the netminding duties in good hands. "She was a great goaltending partner," Paniccia said of Piper. "She's going to do unbelievable things next year." OFFICIAL NOMINATION ENTRY CARRIER OF THE YEAR! The girls of summer There is still time to sign up for this season. Ages 6 - 21.
