We got used to these levels of energy consumption and this standard of living and we now need to change. Big-time change. We cannot build more of these plants, so we all continue using electricity as if there is no limit to our resources or as if there are no implications to our lifestyle. Our consumption is not responsible so let's change how and what we consume. Let's talk about how we can reduce our energy consumption, how we can invest in cleaner technology, cut emissions and become more responsible citizens. We look to our government to lead us on this path, not to provide us with easy access to cheap power and ignore the after effects for communities of today and tomorrow. Our own municipal government in Oakville is doing what it can to legislate against this proposed plant. I call on the governments of Ontario and of Canada to make an example of Oakville: legislate against the building of such hazardous plants in residential areas here and elsewhere, support research into and funding of alternative energy, protect the common good: our health, the air, the water, our land. Educate the public about reduced energy consumption and responsible use of scarce resources. Clean up our heavily polluted air shed, tax the polluters, tax consumption, so we all make do with less.
