The 21-year-old Addison Soeder is participating in the Toronto Alternative Arts & Fashion Week. The program, put on by Fashion. Art. Toronto (FAT) runs April 21-25 but Soeder's exhibit will hit the runway on Wednesday's opening night. "I hope people get a feel of romanticism from (the collection) and hopefully they like the prints and think it's beautiful and that they will want to wear it," she said. The FAT event will feature four days of fashion designs on the runway along with various types of art forms and live music. Each night some 10 designers will be featured. The fifth night is an industry viewing day. Soeder's collection consists mostly of evening wear such as dresses and contemporary cocktail separates. "Woman contemporary is the direction I have gone in," she said. "I love playing with the manipulation of fabrics and designing of fabric prints." Soeder, who graduated from T.A. Blakelock High School, is in her fourth and final year at Ryerson University's fashion design program. The show will feature about 10 different looks, designed by Soeder, which include nearly 20 garments. Five of those looks were part of her a final show at her school, the other five she designed for the upcoming show. She said she likes to manipulate fabrics and one type of her designs includes a digital printing onto chiffon fabric. For the design she filled a vase with water and dropped ink into it and "It will be exciting when the show does happen, but right now it's mostly nerves because, the thing about the industry is, each time you do something, you're putting yourself out there for people to see. Obviously you get critiqued and judged." Addison Soeder Addison Soeder, fashion designer there and I really enjoyed the fashion that they have there." She rendered the photos on Photoshop and had the look printed on chiffon. "That's the main inspiration for my collection and the collection grew from that," she said. She has interned at internationally renowned Canadian design companies as well as abroad in London, England at the late Alexander McQueen's fashion house. McQueen died in February of this year. Currently Soeder doesn't know where she will end up next year but hopes to land a job with a design company. "I want to go back to England," she said.
