www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, April 21, 2010 · 26 Wiley and teammates on `the biggest stage' As a player hoping to attract attention from junior and university hockey teams, Josh Wiley is getting the ultimate exposure this week. Wiley and his Mississauga Reps teammates are competing in the Telus Cup national midget AAA hockey championships in Levis, Que. Should Mississauga reach the final, the team will be showcased on national television this weekend. "This is the biggest stage for us at this age. It's a great opportunity," said Wiley, who captains the Mississauga team. It's not as if the Reps haven't drawn their share of attention from scouts already. Mississauga dominated the Greater Toronto Hockey League from day one this season and enters the Telus Cup on a 25-game unbeaten streak. "We're the big team and it puts a lot of pressure on us," Wiley said, "but we also get a lot of benefits from that." Wiley, whose team beat out several other Ontario squads -- including the Oakville Rangers -- to represent its region at the Telus Cup, has his sights on playing Junior A next season in hopes of eventually securing a scholarship from an American school. The Rochester Institute of Technology, which reached the NCAA's Frozen Four this season and has become a haven for Oakville talent in recent years, is at the top of his list. "I want to use hockey to pay for my school. That's the best way I see fit to use it," Wiley said. "If I could go further after school in hockey, that would be just a bonus." Wiley played his first six hockey seasons with the Minor Oaks Hockey Association. He left for the GTHL six years ago after a broken collarbone prohibited him from trying out for the Rangers. "Their tryouts were later," he said of the GTHL. "I think (the MOHA) is a great organization." The Telus Cup began Monday and concludes Sunday with the championship game, which will be broadcast (on tape delay) on TSN2 at 5 p.m. -- Jon Kuiperij Board of Directors position The YMCA of Oakville is seeking applicants for the Board of Directors.
