Four Seasons end season The Oakville Chamber Orchestra is ending its 26th season on a high note by performing Venetian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi's most famous series of violin concertos. The chamber will end its current season with a pair of concerts on May 1 and 2, with Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. "It's extremely familiar to people even if they are not big classical music fans," said the chamber artistic director and conductor of the upcoming concert Charles Demuynck. "They know almost all the melodies from TV, movies and commercials. It's really a truly famous piece of music for the general public, not just the classical music person." T h e m u s i c , Bora Kim composed in 1723, features four violin concertos, each one named after and resembling in sound each of the seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. "The melodies really sum up, and express beautifully, the different seasons that Vivaldi is describing," Demuynck said. The orchestra will also be joined by soloist Bora Kim on the violin. Other music performed at the concert will include English Baroque composer Henry Purcell's The Virtuous Wife and two sketches by the late Canadian composer Earnest MacMillan. On Saturday the concert will take place at Central Baptist Church, 340 Rebecca St., at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday concert will take place at St. Simon's Anglican Church, 1450 Litchfield Rd., at 3 p.m. Tickets cost $25, with student, senior and child discounts available. The concerts, titled Sing Sing Sing, will take place at the Glen Abbey United Church. The a cappella group has been entertaining Oakville for 42 years. The first, titled Go Figure, features sculptures of the human form and others by artist Gabrielle Horvath, who is known for her work in sandcast bronze. The other exhibit will feature the paintings of Shane Norrie in the Project Room. The opening reception for both is tonight from 7-10 p.m., with the artists in attendance. Crafts will be for sale and there will be draws for prizes.
