Correction to high school national cheerleading results Results from last weekend's cheerleading national championships that were published in Wednesday's edition of The Oakville Beaver were incorrect. The Abbey Park Eagles won the school senior advanced division at the Cheer Alliance nationals with a grand total of 320.00 points, while the T.A. Blakelock Tigers were second with 310.56 points. The White Oaks Wildcats were third in the small senior intermediate division with 289.42 points. The results that were published Wednesday were from the provincial school championships, not the national championships that were held at Mississauga's Hershey Centre. The Beaver regrets the error. 25 · Thursday, May 6, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com OVER 60,000 SATISFIED CUSTOMERS CHEERS: Pictured left to right, Brittany Fulton, Jessica Jewell and Jesse Cooney were three of the ten CheerForce athletes that helped Team Canada win the co-ed and all-girl divisions at the recent world cheerleading championships. CheerForce athletes help Canada to gold Ten athletes from the CheerForce All-Star cheerleading program helped Team Canada's co-ed and all-girl cheerleading teams win their divisions at the recent International Cheer Union World Championships in Orlando, Fla. Jesse Cooney, Andrew Kwok, Brittany Fulton, Jessica Jewell, Jossylyn Farrow, Jaime Stewart, Brent Page, Stephanie Moed, Alexandra Schofield and Karly Hoar were the local athletes that were part of the championship teams. CheerForce owners Chris Hollingsworth and Frank Vurro also contributed as members of the Canadian coaching staff. Team Canada's co-ed and all-girl teams were each comprised of 26 athletes who made the team after submitting a video tryout of their cheerleading skills to the Canadian Cheer Union. Once selected to the team, athletes practiced together several times to perfect their routines before traveling to Orlando. CheerForce also entered three teams into the club division at the world championships. The senior (18 and under) and open (17 and older) teams both posted fifth-place finishes in their divisions, while the junior (14 and under) squad placed sixth. To compete in the club division, teams had to qualify and then receive a bid to participate. CheerForce was the first Canadian all-star gym to receive such a bid four years ago, and this year became the first to receive bids for three teams. BEAT THE HST!
