The Oakville Chamber Ensemble will hold its final concert of the season, titled Singet, Sunday, May 16 featuring the works of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert will feature motets by the composer, including Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (Sing to the Lord a New Song), and Cantata No. 33. The cantata, also known as Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ (Only in Thee, Lord Jesus Christ), was written in the last years of the composer's life. The audience will also be able to chat with the musicians and refreshments will be available. The concert will be at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall St., at 7:30 p.m. Regular admission is $25, seniors and student tickets cost $15 and family tickets are $50 in advance at www.oakville-ensemble.ca or by calling 905-8259740. Tickets at the door are $35 for adults, $25 for seniors, $15 for students and $70 for families. Crime author visits Bronte Tea Room Crime and suspense author and former longtime Oakville resident Vicki Delany is spending some time in the place where she started it all to speak about her latest work. Delany was in Oakville last month and is returning again on Sunday, May 16 to speak about her latest novel Gold Fever: A Klondike Mystery. Delany, a former systems analyst for a financial institution, has published eight novels since 2005. She began writing in Oakville and took early retirement from her work in the financial world, turned full-time to writing and moved to Prince Edward County in Ontario. She will be at The Tea Room by County Faire in Bronte, at 2417 Marine Dr., from 2-4 p.m. For information, visit www.vickidelany.com. Guitar workshops at Appleby this July Guitar Workshop Plus has begun taking registrations for this July's programs. Classes are open to those aged 12 to adult. A variety of styles will be covered through classes, clinics (like songwriting), ensemble performances and evening concerts and it's open to beginners and advanced musicians. This year's lineup includes guitarist/songwriter John Petrucci (Dream Theatre), blues musician Robben Ford, and guitarists Andy Timmons, Greg Howe and Tony MacAlpine. Resident and non-resident tuitions are available along with scholarships. Classes take place at Appleby College. The first session is July 18-23 and the second is July 25-30. A session will take place in Vancouver in August.
