Dan MacRae, Jordan MacIntosh, Sean Gillies, Alex Crepinsek and Elliott Cowburn are part of the RIT men's lacrosse squad that recently won the Empire 8 Division championship and will compete in the NCAA Division 3 Men's Lacrosse Tournament. MacIntosh hopes the five Oakville lacrosse players can follow the same script that Chris Haltigin and Dan Ringwald wrote with the men's hockey squad earlier this spring. "The hockey team was great. It was a storybook season for them... unbelievable. The buzz around the campus here was really something," said MacIntosh, a 20-year-old Holy Trinity grad. "We're hoping to create that same buzz. Sure, everyone will be gone from school already if we go to the final four, but hopefully people can make it out if we go." The 20th-ranked Tigers will take on No. 8 Connecticut College tomorrow (Saturday) in the opening round of the tournament. RIT is making its 12th appearance at the NCAA tourney, but its first since 2006. "We had a meeting at the start of our year and we all set our goals," said the 21-year-old MacRae, also a Holy Trinity alumnus. "Winning the Empire 8 championship was up there pretty quick. Making the NCAA tournament and winning the NCAA championship were also two of our goals that were put up on the board." The Oakville connection at RIT isn't limited to the field. MacRae and MacIntosh are roommates, while Gillies and Crepinsek live directly across the street. MacIntosh, who transferred to RIT this season, said having players on the team that he's known since a child has been a big help. "Going to school in the States is not easy," MacIntosh said. "Knowing all these guys coming in has made the transition a lot easier. And on the field is nice too because you know their tendencies, where they're going to be, where they're going to pass the ball." The Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association products have shone at RIT this season. MacIntosh was named the league's co-player of the year after scoring 33 goals and adding 16 assists despite missing several games with a broken finger. MacRae, Gillies and MacIntosh were all named to the all-conference team. The Tigers carry a 13-5 record and a sixgame winning streak into tomorrow's tournament opener.
