WE ARE THE Lively Dragon Boat race is on Saturday On Saturday (May 29) the annual Lively Dragon Boat Race will be held in Milton at Kelso Conservation Area (5234 Kelso Road) to raise funds for Halton Region's long-term care homes. Those homes include The Villages of Halton -- Allendale in Milton and Post Inn Village in Oakville and adult day programs (Milton Place and Friends Landing in Milton and Silver Creek Place in Georgetown). Lively Dragon is a dragon boat racing club that organizes boat races to raise funds for charities. The event will feature activities for families, a barbecue and dragon boat racing that will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. "We are thankful for the continued support of the Lively Dragon Boat Club and the spirited involvement of all the volunteers, spectators and people in the community that support this race," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "The proceeds from the race will be used to purchase equipment and support special events for our long-term care homes and adult day programs." Dragon Boat racing is the fastest growing water sport in the world. The 2009 Lively Dragon Boat Race was a huge success with close to 1,250 participants, more than 1,000 spectators and $13,479 raised. The annual Lively Dragon Boat Race at Kelso has raised more than $62,000 since the annual race began in 2002. To register a team, you need 20 people and loads of energy.
