Semenov received the Peoples Artist Award of the Soviet Union, as premier danseur with the Kirov Ballet from 1950 to 1996. From 1970 to 1972, Semenov was artistic director of the company. Upon retiring from the stage, he became a pedagogue at The Kirov Theatre, now the Maryinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He teaches at the School of American Ballet Theatre and is a Ballet Master at American Ballet Theatre (New York). The Oakville School of Dance will present its annual Spring Showcase, a professional program of classical and contemporary ballet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 27 and Friday, May 28 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.
