The music theatre program and Trinity United Church, where the production will take place, have teamed up to raise money or non-perishable food for the Trinity Food Cupboard. The group of 24 children in Grades 6-8 will perform Anne of Green Gables -- The Musical at the church on Sunday, May 30. "It's Canadian -- it's a good story," said Dianne Devaux, program director, of why the musical was selected. "Also, a lot of the children have gone to P.E.I. (Prince Edward Island) so they're familiar with that and they've seen the production so it's something you can drive home. It's Canadian and it's worldrenowned." The musical has been produced annually, since 1965, at the Charlottetown Festival in P.E.I. It is based on the bestselling novel, of the same name, by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. It was published in 1908. The book is about an orphan girl who ends up living at Green Gables, a farm in the village of Avonlea in P.E.I. The production features a cast of 24 children aged 11-13. Each cast member has been given one major and one minor role. The production will be performed on two nights at Sheridan College June 17 and 18 and the students will alternate their roles on the two dates. During last year's campaign for the food bank, the students did a theatrical production of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.
