The academic activities at this school are amazing. Our primary division is focusing on hands-on learning through math and literacy centres. They have also learned about the countries around the world, and how they affect the way you dress, eat, speak, play and live. Students have taken a "trip around the world." Our Grade 3 students went back in time to visit the Pioneer Battlefield Museum and learned the won- A ders of the pioneers' lifestyle. Grades 4 through 6 participated in the public speaking contest, by first presenting speeches within their classrooms -- with finalists chosen to represent the school. Congratulations to all the participants. The Grade 5 students have travelled through a time machine to the ancient civilizations. The Grade 3s and 6s are getting ready for their provincial testing, which will be held in June. Our intermediate math teacher arranged for the Grade 7 and 8 students to write the Gauss contest, a test to many who are seeking challenge. The intermediate students were also exposed to a wide range of artistic experiences; including creating tapestries reflecting social injustice as well as corresponding dance pieces. 2010 is a big year for our Grade 8 students as we are finally graduating. We have performed a mock trial of the Louis Riel prosecution. KSM was extremely grateful for our donations. The teachers co-ordinated the annual Jump Rope for Heart event to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The primary students enjoyed many outdoor activities involving skipping, run by Grade 8 students. The event was very successful, raising nearly $7,000. Great work, Heritage Glen. We, as Grade 8 students, are very proud of the school that we have attended for many years. We will take what we have learned here and apply it throughout our lives as we continue our journey. This school offers many opportunities in academics and our students take advantage of the opportunity. Our future architects were given the chance to build mechanical arms in our Design and Technology courses. The arms were able to grip/release, extend/retract, elevate/descend and rotate 90 degrees. The Student Council organized a food drive for Kerr Street Ministries (KSM). Students were encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items to donate to people in need.
