They will also raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, where, as a youth, their son, Matthew, spent some time. "It was always his ambition that he'd do a parachute jump," Sharon said. "The plan was that if we'd wait until the summer time that I would do it with him." However, Matthew died in March in a car collision about a month before his 18th birthday. Because he was under 18 he was never able to parachute, though he had always wanted to. Matt McGregor "I decided to do it in his memory anyways," Sharon added. William told Sharon that he would join her and soon other people who knew Matthew signed up for the adventure. "My husband is terrified of flying, but he's going to do it as well," Sharon said. So now, a group of about 30 people will be jumping from 11,000 feet in the air on Saturday, June 19 in Matthew's memory. Because so many people decided to participate the McGregors turned the jump into a charity fundraiser. The jumpers are getting a small discount off the regular fee to jump. Another cost-saving measure is that they will jump in tandem with an instructor. To parachute alone, one requires many hours of training, while to jump in tandem the instruction length is much shorter and cheaper. The event, which will take place at the Skydive Swoop at the Dundas Air Plaza, will also feature a full day of activities. There will be bouncy castles for children, face painting, live music, barbecue, silent auction and more. All the proceeds raised at the event will go to the hospital. Sharon said people have been very good to them during a difficult time, including providing help in planning this event. Sharon said the Hospital for Sick Children was selected because her son spent a bit of time there from about the time he was 10 years old. He continued going back for regular checkups though he was healthy in his later years. The number of parachute jumpers is maxed out, but Sharon said people can still contribute. She said people can simply donate to the hospital in Matthew's honour or they can come out to the day-long outdoor event and take in the activities and have fun. "This (parachuting) is what he wanted to do for his 18th birthday, which was May 5 and he died March 27, so we're doing this in his honour and in his memory," Sharon said. "If it works out well it might be something we'll do every year." The parachuting will begin at 9 a.m. and the activities run from 10 a.m. to about 6 p.m. The air plaza is located in Dundas, Ontario.
