Hawks peewee teams win gold, bronze at provincials A pair of Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association peewee teams won medals at the recent provincial field lacrosse championships in Brampton. The peewee 1 Hawks earned bronze in the A division, winning three of their five games, while the peewee 3 Hawks claimed gold in the D division by posting a 5-1 record. The two peewee squads were part of the 10-team contingent the OMLA sent to this year's provincials. The peewee 1 Hawks' only losses came to eventual gold-medalist Clarington and silver-medalist Oshawa. Oakville downed St. Catharines 6-2 in the bronze-medal game. Members of the local peewee 1 team are Matthew Baranyai, Austin Loucks, Jonathan Donville, Ethan McArthur, Timothy Gibson, Alex Montague, Bryant McKeon, Dayton Saunders, Matthew Dilella, Matthew Thom, Matthew Danner, Kevin Power, Jaden Walcot, Jayden Wiggins, Jackson den Elzen, Devyn Mayea and Kyle Kolwich. Ken Gillies, Brad Gillies, Bill McKeon and Wally Tymkiv coach the team, and Rick Bergen is the trainer. In the D division, the peewee 3 team needed a goal by Andrew DeRyck in the sixth overtime period to edge the Toronto Beaches in the championship game. Oakville, which pounded Hamilton 8-1 in the semifinal, won its last three games of the tournament after splitting its first two contests.
