Heritage Glen won the senior boys' pennant, finished second in the junior boys' division and placed third in the intermediate boys' division, earning 279.5 overall points. Burlington's Florence Meares won the overall championship with 364 points, followed by Wendy Oldershaw (with trophy) was presented with the White Oaks Pride Award last weekend. Eastview and Emily Carr were the other local schools to participate in the Wallace meet, one of six the Halton public board held this spring. Eastview was second in the intermediate boys' and intermediate girls' divisions, and third in the senior girls' grouping. The award, which is presented only to worthy recipients and not on an annual basis, recognized Oldershaw's countless hours of leadership with White Oaks' athletic council. She has fundraised tens of thousands of dollars for various charities, organized many tournaments and coached all types of sports at White Oaks, all while promoting sportsmanship and school spirit. The Blaze went undefeated in pool play at the 40team tournament, then knocked off Quebec's Elans Noirs in the quarter-finals and rallied from an 11-3 deficit in the third set of the semifinals to score 12 consecutive points and defeat Edmonton's NAVC Green Pandas. Burlington, however, fell to the Ottawa Mavericks in a three-set final. The Blaze's silver medal is the first national medal in the 18-year history of the club.
