Pub owner thanks ErinoakKidsCentre Stout Monk's owner Rick Przybylski knows how to say thank you. His daughter Tania was the beneficiary of treatment at ErinoakKidsCentre for Treatment and Development when she was younger and now every year, he organizes a charity golf tournament to thank ErinoakKids for the difference it made in Tania's life. On Tuesday, the Mississauga resident and Kevin McDermott, who co-owns the Stout Monk pub in Oakville, handed over a $15,000 cheque to ErinoaksKids. "ErinoakKids taught Tania how to deal with and to rise above her challenges," said Przybylski. "They do that for thousands of kids with many challenges, which is why we dedicated this year's proceeds of the golf tournament to support their work." A smiling Tania was on hand as the donation was officially made. Each year ErinoakKids helps almost 9,000 children with disabilities throughout Peel, Halton, Dufferin and, for some of its programs, Wellington and Waterloo. Tania, now in her 20s, was one of those children until she reached age 19. Tania was born with spina bifida, a condition of the lower spine which means she must use a wheelchair. On May 25, a group of 88 golfers topped off the Victoria Day weekend by playing Oakville's Glen Abbey golf course for $250 per person. "It was a perfect day and the perfect cause," said Przybylski. "Many of our regular Stout Monk patrons love golf and it's obvious they have been touched in some way by the role organizations like ErinoakKids play in our community -- and they do not hesitate to let their appreciation and generosity show." ErinoakKids Foundation President Anissa Hilborn appreciates the charitable golf tourney tradition, which started in 2006. "The support of generous people in our communities has always been inspiring and essential for our work," said Hilborn. "Although some of our programs are government funded, many are not. Our community support lets us help the children in more ways, with more programs and it is heart-warming." 4 JUNE 10, 11, 12 & 13 DAYS GET INSPIRED AT PEEL TILE'S 34TH ANNUAL ONLY Your Favourite Flooring, Bathroom & Kitchen Brands on Sale!
