Medal haul for OGC at national meet Led by all-around championships from four of its athletes, the Oakville Gymnastics Club won the most medals of any club represented at the Canadian national gymnastics championships recently in Kamloops, B.C. Jonathan Meehan, Luke Mackinnon, Sabrina Gill and Jordyn Pedersen were each crowned national all-around champions, while many other OGC athletes earned medals in individual events. Meehan, the OGC's top tumbler, landed four solid tumbling passes to capture all-around gold in the Youth division. His final score also qualified him to represent Canada at this fall's world championships in Metz, France. Mackinnon's overall championship in the men's novice 15plus tumbling division was his fifth gold medal in a row. Teammates Michael Chaves and Jack McGarr added silver and bronze medals, respectively. MacKinnon, McGarr and Mackinnon also teamed up to lead the Ontario men's tumbling team to victory over the strong tumblers from Alberta and Quebec. Cory Paterson, the lone men's artistic gymnast from Oakville at the meet, was fifth overall in allaround competition but earned a gold in men's Tyro highbar with clean lines and classy style. But the OGC's greatest successes came in women's artistic gymnastics, where Gill won the high performance junior national all-around title and Pedersen took the novice crown. Mikaela Gerber added silver in junior allaround. Gill also collected gold on uneven bars, silver on beam and bronze on floor. Pedersen earned bronze on the vault. Other individual event medals went to Bianca Jordaan (gold on floor, silver on vault) and Jessica Savona (bronze on beam). Elise Bolger and Pedersen were part of the gold-winning Ontario squad in novice team competition, while Nikki Paterson, Tedra Bolger and Krishna Yemany helped Ontario win silver in the open women's category.
