While Chapman and his wife Barbara had a thankyou cake in hand, it was all quite different from Chapman's meeting with firefighters not long before. It was just a short month earlier that, on May 7 at about 3:30 p.m., Chapman, who is the vice commodore of the Oakville Power Boat Club, was at the Water Street club helping to set up the crane to launch boats the following morning. "I do not remember (what happened), but as the owner of the crane company and I were putting the last of the blocking under the outrigger, I was told, I stood up and asked him to phone 911. He asked if I was kidding and I said, `No, I do not want to die here today,'" Chapman told The Oakville Beaver. The man then dialled 911 and laid Chapman on the ground. "Within 30 seconds, I was told, the firemen arrived and started working on me and brought me back. They spent the better part of 30 minutes making sure I was able to make the journey to O a k v i l l e - Tr a f a l g e r (Memorial) Hospital. Chapman said all the find any reason why this happened, there was no heart damage or blockages of any sort," said Chapman. At Trillium Health Centre -- where all 911 heart attack emergencies go directly under a regional cardiac plan and then receive follow up back at home -- an implantable cardioverter defibrillator was put in Chapman and then he was told to go live his life. "I want to remind everyone just how lucky we all are to have the services of the Oakville Fire Services and the many, many professionals at the hospital that quietly go about making our journey through life just that much easier and safer," said Chapman. The Chapmans have a 28-year-old son who lives in Vancouver and a 26year-old daughter who lives in River Oaks. Chapman operates a small company in town and has lived here for 23 years. "The doctors said I went into ventricular fibrilation arrest. All the stars were aligned for me and with the help of the firefighters and the excellent work of all the staff at hospital I am here to tell the tale.
