In the past year, Nixon was the treasurer for the auxiliary and now replaces Doug Coate, who has completed a two-year term as president. Since then he has been involved with numerous organizations acting as president for both the Atomic Energy of Canada (ACRA) Retirement Club and Probus Club, and now the OHVA. "It is a great honour to be leading this organization for the next two years." Scholarship applications sought UCB Canada Inc. is looking for applications to its 2010 UCBeyond Scholarship Program. During its four-year lifespan, the UCBeyond Scholarship has allocated almost 70 educational bursaries worth close to $350,000 to students living with chronic illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease and epilepsy. An independent selection committee of leading physicians and patient representatives from across the country will choose the 2010 UCBeyond Scholarship recipients. Applicants will be evaluated based on a one-page essay demonstrating how they reach beyond their disease, exhibit perseverance and empower others, as well as two letters of personal recommendation. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2010 and the scholarship recipients will be announced in September 2010.
