Two Burloak crashes tie up traffic By Jenni Dunning METROLAND WEST MEDIA GROUP Rash of break-ins in Oakville The Halton Regional Police Service warns residents to lock their doors and windows after several break-ins have taken place in Oakville. Police say over the last few weeks there has been a string of night-time residential break-ins in the Trafalgar and Palermo communities. The culprits are entering homes through unlocked doors and windows. Police believe there are several individuals and a vehicle involved in the incidents. Items such as purses, wallets, cell phones, cash and computers have been stolen. Police have increased their presence in the targeted communities, but ask residents to protect themselves by locking their doors and windows, along with activating their home security systems and reporting any suspicious people or vehicles, either standing or parked, on roads or driveways in the middle of the night. 5 · Wednesday, June 30, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Two men were taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, in separate crashes an hour apart that tied up traffic in Oakville and Burlington on Sunday. Both incidents took place on Burloak Drive -- one at Lakeshore Road and the other at nearby Queen Elizabeth Way. A van reported stolen rolled over on a highway ramp after a police chase about 6:30 p.m. The SIU was called in and is expected to investigate, said OPP Constable Graham Williamson. The driver has non-life threatening, but serious injuries. The vehicle was reported stolen in Toronto, but police became aware of it after receiving several concerned calls about erratic driving, he said. The driver did not stop for police officers who used their sirens and lights while chasing it down the road and onto the Burloak off-ramp, where it crashed, Williamson said. The 45-year-old Mississauga man driving the van suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was taken to Hamilton General Hospital for treatment. The SIU, a civilian agency which investigates incidents of serious injuries, sexual assault or death involving police and civilians has invoked its mandate to investigate. In the other incident, a man believed to be in his 60s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after two vehicles smashed into each other. Traffic at Burloak and Lakeshore was closed for about four hours after the 5:25 p.m. crash. The injured man was travelling westbound on Lakeshore when the two cars collided, police said. 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt LS 4 cylinder, 155 horsepower, air, power steering, power brakes, front and side air bags, adjustable steering column, Cash Sale Price Now Only $ Just add taxes and licence VEHICLE PRICING IS NOW EASIER TO UNDERSTAND BECAUSE ALL OUR PRICES INCLUDE FREIGHT, PDI, ADMIN FEES AND MANDATORY GOVERNMENT LEVIES.
