Predeceased by Janet, his loving wife of 54 years. Beloved father of Peter and his wife Anne ("nee" Logan). Proud grandfather of Kelly and her husband Chris Betts, Brian and his partner Jenn Walsh, and Alison. Adoring great grandfather of Jake. Survived by older brother Arthur and his wife Lois, in Winnipeg MB. John was born November 6th 1918, in Margaret, Manitoba. He grew up on a small family farm in southwestern Manitoba, with his parents Archie and Ada, three brothers Arthur, Donald, Philip, and sister Ruth. During his childhood on the prairies he developed a great appreciation and love of nature, which lasted his entire life. He left the farm as a young man, to join the RCAF. He served in the second World War as a radar engineer, at several air bases in Canada. In July 1946, with his best man Ron Dicken at his side, he married the love of his life Janet Roy. They moved to Brandon MB, where he started his own refrigeration business. The need to achieve sent him back to school, and he graduated from McGill University in Montreal with an Engineering degree in 1953. He immediately started working at Canadian National Railway, where he had a ver y successful 30 year career. Most of his career was spent working as a research engineer, developing many innovative refrigeration related projects. He also worked to create CNR's National Environmental Committee, and served as it's chairman until his retirement in 1983. He spent many years as councillor for the town of Ste. Anne de Bellevue, and often represented the town on various committees of the MUC. He coached local kids hockey teams, and spent many hours supporting various projects in the municipality. He was a founding, long time member and Senator of the Ile Perrot Golf Club. He was an amateur artist and published writer. A true gentleman. A very kind and loving person. He will be missed dearly by his family, and all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held at the Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville (at Dundas St.) on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 10 a.m. An Inurnment will be held at a later date at Sainte Anne de Bellevue Cemetery. Our beautiful little girl was taken from us suddenly on June 22, 2010 at the age of thirteen in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Although her life was too short, she touched so many people. Carly will be deeply missed by her parents Lorrie and Rose, her little brothers Cole and Jack, her nana and nonno, her grandpa, her many aunts, uncles, cousins and all her friends.
