13 · Friday, July 2, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Go wild at the library I t is Summer Reading time at your local library and this year, it's going to be a jungle in here. This year's theme of Destination Jungle is sure to have your kids engrossed in tales of animals, backpacks and more... Our hugely popular TD Summer Reading Program began Friday, June 25 -- visit our website at http://www.opl.on.ca/programs/summer-reading/ to find out more about how to sign up online and watch our Summer Reading promotional DVD on the website, it is a great one to show your kids. This year Oakville Public Library partnered with the White Oaks Secondary School film class students who wrote the script, filmed, edited and produced the promotional DVD under the direction of their film teacher Mr. Dale Andrews. It was a great opportunity to partner with the school and have the students involved with the library project and OPL would love the chance to work with them again next year. The TD Summer Reading Program encourages children to read for fun and offers an opportunity to explore individual interests. Studies have shown that library reading programs help to maintain the reading level and learning skills that a child has achieved during the preceding school year. The program is interactive, exciting and free and children earn some great incentive prizes. Children can sign up for the Summer Reading Program online using their library cards or their parent/caregiver's library card and registration is also available at each library branch. Children set goals for their reading and once these goals are achieved, they receive prize packs when they report on their reading at their local branch. Prize packs consist of fantastic incentives, kindly sponsored by McDonald's Restaurant in Oakville, YMCA of Oakville, African Lion Safari and Conservation Halton. Through these sponsorships and The Friends of the Oakville Public Library support, the TD Summer Reading Program carries on year after year serving more than 4,000 children each summer. -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library EVERYTHING MUST SELL!
