Artscene Fairy magic in Bronte Up for competition You can expect a world of magic for the next two weekends at Sovereign House in Bronte as fairies will take over the historic home for a child-friendly art show. The Midsummer Magic 2010 art show will feature an exhibition of fairy paintings and prints by Frances Tyrrell. Tyrrell is the illustrator of many children's books including The Illustrated Fairy Gazette series. The artwork in the local show will feature illustrations from the series. The Illustrated Fairy Gazette is currently a series of three books: A Christmas Celebration, Bon Voyage and Festivals and Fairs. The books are not yet available in Canada, but there will be copies available at the show at Sovereign House. Refreshments will also be available. Tyrrell will be at the exhibits. The exhibit opens July 3 and wraps up July 14. Andrea Seibt is holding a show of her art at CJ's Café in Bronte from July 6 to Aug. 3. The show is the beginning of three events for Seibt which will feature her artwork to protect the oceans. She is donating paintings to three organizations dedicated to protecting the oceans. The first painting is heading to the Sea No Evil Art Auction in California to support the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. During the show at CJ's Café, the second painting will be displayed and the proceeds from its sale will go to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS). The third painting in this series will be shown at the 44th annual Art in the Park this August at Bronte Harbour, which will support The Cove to Save Japan's Dolphins. Seibt will have an opening reception on July 6 at 6:30-8 p.m. ERIC RIEHL / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER IN GREECE: The Oakville Children's Choir held a Bon Voyage Concert at the John Bell Chapel at Appleby College last weekend. Some 30 of the OCC's Senior Choir members have headed across the Atlantic for a choral tour that began June 29 and continues through July 10. In Greece, the choristers will participate in the 28th International Choir Festival of Preveza and the 16th International Competition of Sacred Music. The tour will feature performances in ancient amphitheatres. Here, the choir members perform in a fundraising concert to support their trip's expenses.
