The Dolphns took a small team of swimmers to compete in the 12-and-under category at the meet, and all of them posted top-eight finishes. Leading the way was 11-year-old Meryn McCann, who won all six of her events. McCann was the top point-scorer in her age group after claiming gold in the 50-metre, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyles as well as the 100m and 200m backstrokes. McCann set a meet record in the 200m freestyle. Twelve-year-old Zixuan Li also enjoyed an impressive meet, picking up four gold. Li won the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle as well as the 400m individual medley, adding silvers in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley. Li's time in the 400m individual medley was a meet record. The Dolphins' lone bronze went to 11-year-old George Papangelakis, who finished third in the 50m breaststroke. William Dixon, Panos Papangelakis, Erin Wilson and Shannon Russell added top-eight finishes for the Dolphins. VENOMOUS: The Oakville Venom bantam AAA girls' basketball team wrapped up a dominant season by winning the Eastern Canadian Club Championships last weekend in Halifax. Oakville went 5-0 at the tournament to finish the year with an overall record of 51-2. Bantam Venom best in Eastern Canada The dominance of the Oakville Venom bantam AAA girls' basketball team this season wasn't limited to just its inprovince opposition. The Venom easily won the 13-under girls' title at the Eastern Canadian Club Championships last weekend in Halifax, Nova Scotia, winning all five of its games by a combined score of 276-134. Oakville clinched Eastern Canadian gold with a 53-33 rout of Newfoundland's Cowan Heights in the championship game, following a 52-24 pounding of Prince Edward Island's Mid Isle Magic in the semifinals. Oakville's Liana Hughes was named tournament MVP. Hughes and teammate Tiffany McNeil were selected to the tournament's all-star team. Other members of the Venom, which went 51-2 overall this season, are Delaney Hughes, Vanessa Garcia, Sophia Sanvictores, Claire Bannister, Audrey Popa, Jaelyn Kirkpatrick, Sonia Mijatovic and Hayley Suchanek.
