The funding allocation, which was recommended by the Community Services Committee Tuesday, would see $310,000 used to inoculate 1,600 municipal street and parkland ash trees with the bioinsecticide TreeAzin, $112,000 used to pay consultants to help deal with the EAB threat and $25,000 used to let residents what they can do to save their ash trees. Town staff say the insect has the potential to cause millions of dollars of damage if not properly controlled. The allocation will go before council for final approval on Tuesday. Emerald Ash Borer The EAB was introduced to North America from Asia and was first detected in the Detroit area in 2002. Since then, it has spread throughout the Great Lakes basin from Michigan to New York State and parts of Ontario and Québec.
