Best-ever finish for Jones Queen Elizabeth Park grad Kyle Jones posted his best-ever World Championship Series triathlon result last weekend with a 16thplace finish in Hamburg, Germany. The 25-year-old Jones, who missed the first half of the season with a series of injuries, clocked in with a time of 1:44.46. Spain's Javier Gomez won the race in a time of 1:43.07. "Kyle is now at a point where he feels like he can get into the top 10, and sees clearly the things he needs to do to get there," said Triathlon Canada high-performance director Kurt Innes. "He just needs to continue building and getting long race experience. This was another solid result for him." FEELING PINKISH: Dan West of the Oakville Crusaders men's first team carries the ball as teammate Grant Schneider looks on. The Crusaders wore pink for their rugby league game Saturday against Stoney Creek in support of the organization's annual Prom Dress charity fundraiser, scheduled for later this month. www. com Cru preparing to get dressed up The Oakville Crusaders are preparing to host their fifth annual Prom Dress charity fundraising rugby games in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Crusaders, along with neighbouring rugby clubs Burlington Centaurs and Mississauga Blues, will hold the fundraiser Thursday, July 29 at Crusader Park, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Three women's teams will participate in this year's event. The under-18 girls' and senior women's teams will both play in their dresses once again, while the under-15 girls' squad will make its Prom Dress debut this year. Even the men are getting in on the act. Oakville's senior men's first team wore pink uniforms in its league game Saturday, a 66-28 rout of Stoney Creek. Players from the Oakville, Burlington and Mississauga clubs will all take part in the girls' games. Organizers hope this year's event raises more than $40,000. "The Prom Dress Games have become a focal point to the women's season, and something they all look forward to playing in," said David Nelson, past president of the Crusaders and chair of the Prom Dress Committee. The Prom Dress Games are not a simple easy runaround for the players. All are committed to playing a full-contact, high-energy series of games. The referees and touch judges will also sport prom dresses for those contests. A festival atmosphere is expected at Crusader Park for the event. The Crusaders' clubhouse will be open, food and drinks will be available for all, and fundraising tables will be set up in support of the cause. Crusader Park is located on the west side of Ninth Line, between Upper Middle Road and Dundas Street. #1 in System for Your Home $ /month** Home Comfort GAS FURNACE, CENTRAL AIR, Since 1990 AIR PURIFIER & HUMIDIFIER THE BIGGEST SALE EVER 89 Offer ends July 31, 2010 Or Central Air Conditioner from $39/month** UP TO $ 3830* IN GOVERNMENT & FACTORY REBATES* ELIGIBLE FOR SAME DAY INSTALLATIONS AVAILABLE We service Lennox *Call for details, offers cannot be combined, On new orders only ** OAC Prime rate subject to change. 905-849-4998 9 LOCATIONS TO SERVE YOU BETTER *See dealer for details www.aireone.com 1-888-827-2665 A+ Rating OAKVILLE SOCCER CLUB Four Burloak paddlers selected to compete at world championships Week Nine Photo Contest Winner: Photographer: Nunzio Izzo Sponsored by: Four members of the Burloak Canoe Club, including three-time Olympic medalist Adam van Koeverden, have been named to the Canadian team for the upcoming world canoe and kayak championships in Poland.
