The team of Oakville Little League all-stars was slated to face Cornwall in one of two semifinals at the Provincial Senior League Baseball Championships, a game that began after the Beaver's press deadlines. The winner of last night's contest would meet the Windsor area's West Turtle Club in the championship game today (Wednesday), a 2 p.m. start at River Oaks Park. West Turtle Club downed Thunder Bay 12-2 in yesterday's other semifinal, which began at noon. The winner of the tournament will advance to the Canadian championships in St. John, New Brunswick. The six-team provincial tournament has been competitive throughout. All teams won at least one game and all lost at least one game as well. Nine of the 15 round-robin games were decided by three runs or less. Oakville followed up an openinggame 15-7 win over East Nepean with a 12-7 victory over South Ottawa. The Whitecaps dropped their next three games, however, falling 6-5 to the West Turtle Club Saturday, 8-3 to Cornwall Sunday and 13-5 to Thunder Bay South Monday. Oakville and East Nepean both tied for fourth place in the preliminary round, but the Whitecaps earned a spot in the semis due to head-to-head results. Cornwall was first in qualifying, winning four straight games after opening the tournament with an 11-8 loss to East Nepean. Thunder Bay and West Turtle Club both posted 3-2 records in the roundrobin. South Ottawa finished with a 1-4 mark.
