Blades reunited with old foes The Oakville Blades have been reunited with some of their old division rivals. The Blades will once again compete with neighbouring squads like the Burlington Cougars and Hamilton Red Wings after the Ontario Junior Hockey League officially announced its realignment for the upcoming season. Oakville will compete in the North-West Conference's West Division, along with the Brampton Capitals, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, Georgetown Raiders, Milton Ice Hawks, Mississauga Chargers, Burlington and Hamilton. The league has contracted from 36 to 31 teams for the upcoming season. All teams will play a 50game schedule, with two games being played at the annual Governors Showcase weekend Oct. 7-11 in Aurora. The OJHL season will start on Sept. 9 and conclude on Feb. 13. Oakville's first game will be Sept. 14 in Buffalo. U14 Vytis rewarded for playing fair Playing fair does pay off. The Oakville Vytis under-14 major bantam girls' basketball team recently won an Ontario Basketball Fair Play Award for its adherence to and support of the association's Fair Play principles and policies. By being one of four teams selected for the award, the Vytis received a one-week full-stay session at Olympia Sports Camp, the premier residential basketball camp in Ontario. Other teams to receive the award were the Kanata Cavaliers U13 bantam boys, Haldimand Huskies U15 midget girls and Orangeville Hawks U16 major midget boys. The Vytis won silver in Division 4 at this year's Ontario Cup provincial competition, winning its first four games before falling to Ottawa South in the final. Members of the Vytis are Jessica Ferko, Imani Stewart, Meghan Mollinga, Erica Mandel, Aleisha Cross, Madeline Over, Brooke Villarba, Kristen Wadey, Kayleigh Anstey and Natalie Discenza. John Mooney coaches the team and Laura Mooney is the manager.
