Then, there are large illusions, which have the Vegas element, and he will perform close-up magic that will be displayed on a video screen. "I'm actually known throughout Canada as one of the top card magicians in the country," he said of why needs a video screen. "So what I do with a deck of cards is pretty extreme." Stolz studied with the late card magic legend Martin Nash, otherwise known as The Charming Cheat. "He was one of the best card experts who ever lived," Stolz said. "And I got really lucky because he ended up retiring, left Hollywood, Magic Castle, and returned to his hometown, which happened to be about a block away from where I was in my hometown." After Nash saw Stolz perform, the two made an agreement with each other. "He was an older guy of 74 at the time, and I helped him learn how to use his com- puter and he worked on my card stuff," Stolz said. "It was a cool little arrangement so I was his student for a little while. He kind of whipped me into more shape." One of Stolz's favourite acts in the upcoming show is a Silver Chair trick, which he initially created for a performer named Reza, who has used it previously. However, Stolz added he will take the trick even further. And, unlike on some television shows, Stolz said he will not reveal the secrets of his magic illusions. "They've actually done studies on it," he said. "If you tell somebody how a puzzle works or how magic works they're completely disappointed. The fun is completely taken away." The show is on each night at 8 p.m., plus there is a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Aug. 14. Tickets are $20. Though the show takes place as Sheridan, tickets are available at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts website at www.oakvillecentre.ca. Theatre Sheridan is located at 1430 Trafalgar Rd.
