Blakelock student collected silver in the women's 200-metre and 400m races while adding a bronze in the 100m event. St. Thomas Aquinas grad Miana Griffiths narrowly missed the podium in the women's 100m dash, finishing fourth with a time of 11.84 seconds. In 400m sprint events, Abbey Park alumnus Michael Trnkus placed fifth in the men's race and White Oaks grad Kate Ruediger was sixth in the women's competition. Sheridan College grad Josh Cassidy won gold in the men's 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m wheelchair races at the meet. A story on Cassidy's performance appeared in Wednesday's edition of the Beaver. The Golf Association of Ontario's bantam boys' championship, held this year at Puslinch Lake Golf Course, is open to players aged 13 and younger. Cord draws Red Wings' interest Oakville Blades defenceman Alex Cord is one of six free agents that have been invited to the Detroit Red Wings' annual prospects tournament. The 18-year-old is known as a two-way blueliner. In addition to playing with the Blades, Cord had a 10-game Ontario Hockey League audition with the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors last season. Cord had a goal, eight assists and 48 penalty minutes in 38 regular-season games with the Blades last year. Cornwall led 4-3 in the fifth before pulling ahead 8-3. West Turtle Club rallied for two in the seventh and final inning but could not get any closer. This is the second straight year the Black Sox have won the senior provincial title. The Black Sox beat out the Oakville Whitecaps 8-4 in Tuesday's semifinal round. Halton will be sending two teams to compete in the Pop Warner Global Challenge Tournament at Disney World Orlando in December this year. MacDonald finished at four over par for the tournament after posting a first-round 70 and closing out the tournament with a 74.
