Sports Oakville Beaver The Oakville Titans were denied an Ontario Football Conference junior varsity tier two championship with a 42-28 loss to the Toronto Jr. Argonauts Sunday in Waterloo. Oakville rallied from an early three-touchdown deficit to take a 2826 lead into the fourth quarter, but the momentum turned when Toronto returned a squib kick for a major. The Jr. Argonauts tacked on another touchdown shortly afterwards and then relied on their pounding ground attack to close out the game. "Their running back was extremely powerful and they have a very big and dominant line," said Oakville head coach Sean Roberts. "They were able to drive the ball and chew up the clock at that point." An injury to Aaron Grant didn't help things either. "That took a lot of the gas out of us," Roberts said. "Their lines were guys going one way." The coach highlighted linebacker Christian Downey and running back/rush end/linebacker Toluwa Fayemi for strong efforts in the loss. This is the second straight year an Oakville Titans junior varsity team reached a league final. The Titans won the South Central Ontario Football League AAA title last year. This year's squad included only two returnees from the 2009 championship team. Many players were on a younger team last year that won only one game. "This season, with a few key additions, it just opened things up completely," said Roberts. "What we accomplished was big, especially for players from last year and what they went through." -- Jon Kuiperij GOOD RECEPTION: Baptiste Bodin of the Oakville Titans (right) shakes off a Toronto Jr. Argonauts defender to pull in a pass during Sunday's Ontario Football Conference junior varsity tier two final in Waterloo.
