Aug. 5th VANDELEUR VS FLESHERTON The \'ans have a hard-hitting- team and can be expected to bust up a ball game a any time. They trimmed the locals 6-4 on Monday in a tight contest with Buchanan pitching, and a g'ood game is assured to those Avho will attend. BOOST YOUR TEAM TO VICTORY Game called at 3.30 sharp ADMISSION: 25 and 15 cents * I Flesherton Greyd made fifood their boast of having: championship calibre I when they took the undefeated Dun- dall< .Shrainrocks into camp on their 1 own {grounds by a 1 1 â€" 9 score. The game was one of the best of the season, and it was a case of bat- ' tintr strenjfth winninpr the ball game. I Of the Flcsherton i^quad, Thurston and Akins were the only two to be ' retired by the strikeout route, and the I continuous fielding necessary, was too much for the Dundalk infield, and i they broke at crucial moments. I Alcox was started in the box for ' the first time this season, and work- ed the fir.H three innings, and, al- I thouKh nicked for five runs, the "big boy" v.-orkcd well throughout. Dundalk tallied two runs in both the first and second innings, while the locals shoved three across the old platter in the second, Boyd, McTav- ish and Wauchopo doing the tallying. M. Thompson scored his second run of the came in the third. Alcox poled one over the fence in the 3rd but was out at the plate trying to make it a homer. He was relieved at this stage by Kitchen. Dundalk loucTied Kitch- en for three hits in the fourth, and Rundle and Douglas tallied two runs, but after that the homesters were blanked in the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings. The sixth was Flesherton's big inn- ing. Muir, first man up, singled, K. Boyd flew out to Rundle, McTavish singled, Wauchone doubled, scoring Muir and McTavish; Alcox singled, scoring Wauchope and tieing up the score. Sparks singled through short, scoring Alcox, F. Bett.; singled and Sparks scored on the hit. Kitchen sacrificed and Betts scored, C. Thomp ^son made a lovely catch of Akins' drive, to end the inning. Score 9 â€" 7. Dundalk, in a thrilling rally, shoved two counters across the plate, when Dyer and Montgomery again tied up the game. Flesherton showed punch on the attack when they broke the tie in the 8th. Aldox was hit by pitcher, Akins going in to run. Sparks singled, and Akins scored on a pass- ed ball. F. Betts sacrificed Sparks honi'; aiu' Kitchen flew out to Run- dle to end the inning. Tlie .ShramrocKs ma^U' a bold liid for the game when M. Thompson. hit a doubled, C.Thompson sacrificed, Stafford reached first on a hit and play which was held. Kitchen, how- ever, tightened up, and struck out laiaiafaiajarsjsiaffiEiHia/aiaaiasiaiaiaiaisifflaiaMsisJSisisMssiMSisiaisn^ Dyer and Mclnlyrc, pr/'ventiuv a':y | scoring. Akips, Muir and Boyd wero , retired in order in the 'Jth. Small Advertisement Ken Boyd wa.i good as ever at 1st, and steadied the infield to a wonder- ful extent. Akins injured his hand i^ain in the 3rd inning, and played under a great handicap. .A.lcox was struck on the arm by a pitched vail, necess- tating a runner being sent in for Mm. Admission 35 and 20 cents. A big crowd is expected to have an enjoyable time. Could You Do It? Two women walked 58 miles from Philadelphia to Atlantic city in 13 hours. That is 4 G-13 miles per hour. The average walker would hardly do that on the way down town unless there was some good reason to hurry along. It is doubtful even if the average pedestrian makes four miles an houi-. Walking 58 miles In los.^ than 13 hours does not create a record but in this ray when walking is supposed to be a lost art, it is a performance of which the two 'iVom- en'can be proud.
