Snell, who are cele- brating a wedding anniversary in the near future. Bridge and euchre were played prior to the presentation. An address was read by Mrs. F. Collin- son and Mr. Jim McMullen presented Mre. Snell with a lace table cloth, chenille bedspread and a aum of money for Weals for Mr. Snell. Mrs. Snell was completely taken by sur prise, but expressed her gratitude very ahly. Lunch was served follow- ing the presentation and a very en- joyable evening spent. The Institute's November meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Knox, when Mrs. McWilliam, the president, conducted the opening exercises. Following the scripture reading, the roll call was answered by "Some- thing I'd like for Christmas." Con- siderable interest was displayed in connection with the hox which will soon be shipped to the Salvation Army for the Red Cross. A couple of tops are ready for quilting. Mrs. Knox contributed a pair of gloves. It was moved and seconded that each member donate 16 cents to the Insti- tute, in place of the usual custom o) a Christmas gift exchange. Mrs. McWilliam read an article on "Cour- age" and Mrs. Smellie *nducted a contest, with Mrs. McWilliam winn- ing the prize. Mr. and Mrs. Pedlar of Detroit, Mich., spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fisher. A number of Ceylon people, to- gether with seven cars of young people from the Mennonite congre- gations at Shrigley, Singhampton and Osprey, enjoyed a song service Sunday evening at the home of Mr. S. Hemphill. Rev. Dow Sargeant of Singhampton had charge of the ser- vice and gave a short address. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Wright and family of Feversham, Mr, Chan. Irish and Miss Isabel of Toronto and Mrs. Irish and Gertie of Flesherton were visitors Sunday at the home of Mr. S. Hemphill. The members of the Grey and Bruce Garagemen's Association are holding a banquet and dance in the Fraternal Hall, Flesherton, Thursday evening. Mr. Chas. Irish, Miss Mabel Irish, and the former's daughter, Isabel, and Misses Connie and Evelyn Irish of Toronto spent the week end with Mrs. F. Irish in town. "Poppy Day" was held in Flesher- ton on Nov. 8th, and in a check-up on Wednesday last it was found that the people had donated $15 for the work of the Canadian Legion. This is the most money yet made here. Misses Evelyn McTavish and Doreen Hagan, the latter our British war guest, were the "taggers." EUGENIA Sunday morning Mr. Wra. Buchan- an of the Kimberley circuit took the service in our church and delivered a very impressive sermon, based on the Christian Jiome. 'Mrs. 'Frank Cairns presided at the organ for the hymns, Rev. Dr. Mercer took the services on the Kimberley circuit. The TV. A. of the United church will hold their November meeting on Wednesday afternoon of this week. The roll call will be answered by a verse pertaining to Peace or Remem- brance Day. )1> Mr. John Park, son of Mrs. Richard Park and the late Postmaster Park of the village, has enlisted in the Tank Corps v Trooper Park is now stationed at Chatham. We wish him good luck. Mr. and Mrs. T. Stewart and fam- ily of Ceylon have taken apartments in Mr. Ed. Baker's home, during Mr. Stewart's stay here as guard at the dam. The ladies of the community en- joyed a very pleasant time at a quilt- ing at the home of Mrs. Wilfred Magee on Thursday of last week. A delicious ten cent tea was served in aid of the W. A. Miss Lillian Magee has returned home from Toronto and at present is assisting her sister, Mrs. Ranald Parsons. Dr. J. E. Milne of Flesherten on Wednesday last administered the toxoid for the school children in the section for the prevention of diph- theria. ORANGE VALLEY Mr. and Mrs. George Fry and son, Earl, of Nashville, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hill. Mr. Leslie Humphries and Mr. Leonard Alcox are visiting at Bob- caygeon. A.C. Raymond McFadden returned to his duties at Belleville after his two weeks' furlough. Pte. Jas. Smith spent the week end at his home here. A very pleasant evening was spent in Flesherton town hall Friday even- ing last by the Orange Valley and Flesherton friends in honor of Mr. and Mra. Wesley Littlejohns, who were recently married. At the mid- night hour an appropriate address was read by Mrs. Jack Hill and the presentation of a studio couch made >by Messrs. Gordon Hill and Alex. Aberdein. Any pheasants living in the pro- vince today must feel like the turkey who sees the dawn of the 26th of December.
